Pre-qualifying contractors and subcontractors is one of the most important steps that employers can take in reducing risk.  A system needs to be in place in order to make sure contractors can safely handle the work you want them to do.  Using contractors at workplaces can increase environmental, health, and safety risks within an operation due to the complex needs or requirements and the varying levels of which outside employers commit to safety and health practices.  Host-employers are often faced with managing their own internal risks as well as the risks associated with outside employers while trying to achieve operational goals and maintain performance.  This presentation will seek to compile and develop best practices for managing contractors and suppliers in a manner that effectively reduces organizational risks.
