SAVE THE DATE: The ASSP banquet is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th at Pasta Amore. The SPY winner for this year is Steve Danon. We also have 6 members who are receiving either a 25 year or 40 year plaque for years of membership. Unfortunately, we did not have a scholarship winner this year that met our criteria.

Steve Danon – 2019 SPY Award Winner

Steve Danon is the Director of Risk Control &Safety Services for Marcotte and has been in that position for more than fourteen years. Prior to Marcotte, Steve held positions with two of the largest business insurance companies in the U.S. and with the second largest business insurance agency in the world. A sampling of the businesses he has worked with have included, Nebraska Furniture Mart, Creighton University, Godfathers Pizza, Pizza Hut, Douglas County, Boystown-National Operations, Gordmans Stores, Commercial Federal Bank, Huntel Communications, Dillards, JC Penney’s, Sears, Younkers, Security National Bank, Millard School District, Oriental Trading Company and United Parcel Service.

He has been a reserve lieutenant firefighter for a large Nebraska Suburban Fire Department, nationally and Nebraska/ California certified Emergency Medical Technician, and a First Aid/CPR national instructor (train-the-trainer). He is a past Board member of the American Society of Safety Engineers-Great Plains Chapter and serves as an adjunct Occupational Safety Program Instructor for Metropolitan Community College Omaha, Nebraska.

Steve has recently served on the Command Staff as the Safety Officer for the tri-county (Douglas,Washington, Sarpy) Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) a national Homeland Security program to enhance security and overall preparedness to prevent, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism.

During the 2018 Eclipse Event, Steve worked with the National Park Service & NASA to provide oversight safety for the nation’s Eclipse Focal Point at Homestead National Monument in Beatrice, Nebraska. His duties included advising the Incident Commander and all staff and volunteers in maintaining a safe environment for the 20,000 visitors that attended this three-day event. The Governor of Nebraska recently re-appointed him to the Nebraska Emergency Response Commission. He has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management of Human Resources and is an Authorized OSHA Outreach Instructor and has presented hundreds of compliance and risk reduction workshops.

Bryce Stanley is a stand-up comedian from KansasCity, Missouri. Bryce’s small town upbringing andhis many life experiences has produced a laid-back,clever style that is a hit with all audiences. Hismisdirection and unique views of the world willhave you guessing what is coming next. Bryce hasperformed in over a dozen states, has headlined,featured and/or hosted at numerous comedy clubsaround the Midwest as well as headlining manysmall town shows around the Midwest.
