PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Greetings Everyone!

As summer begins, we take some time to enjoy spending time outdoors, taking trips, and seeing friends and family.  It’s also a time where we see an increase in the number of work and nonwork-related injuries and illnesses as people are busier and seasonal hazards such as heat play a more prominent role.  Hopefully, summer provides some time to reflect on the importance of the safety, health, and environmental (SHE) profession and your career.

By now you are aware of the name change to the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP). This reflects Societies awareness that safety personnel come into the profession many ways.  Regardless of how we got here, we need tools and resources to be more effective and relevant in the workplace and community at large.  That’s where ASSP is here to help!

Summer is the time your ASSP Great Plains Board reviews the past year and looks to the future to provide you with technical meetings and other opportunities to learn more about keeping your skills strong and to be aware of changes within our industries.  We have an exciting year planned covering subjects such as machine guarding, robotics, and many other topics.  We plan on kicking off the year with an August facility tour.

We will be sending out a short survey to give you an opportunity to tell us what you want out of the chapter this summer.  We ask you to participate, so you can help us understand your needs and how we can better support your career development goals.  Take some time this summer to ask yourself a few questions.

•    What do I need to achieve my career goals over the next year?  Five years?
•    What topics in SHE are most important to me right now?
•    Are there other skills or tools training that can make me more effective as a SHE professional?
•    Am I interested in getting involved in my chapter activities?
•    How can my ASSP chapter help me achieve these goals?

Your ASSP Great Plains Chapter Board wants to provide you with relevant opportunities so you can drive your career where you want to be.  Let us know, so we can help!

Have a safe summer!

Sincerely,

Eric Schermerhorn, CSP, CPE

We will post the jobs to our website at greatplains.assp.org. This is done currently at no charge, but the chapter is always accepting donations to help establish our scholarship fund. Your contribution is appreciated.
